The Boston region faces very real risks of substantial damage from storm surge, extreme precipitation, and sea level rise. Our report, funded by the Barr Foundation and sponsored by the Green Ribbon Commission, is the first of its kind, and it recommends a layered approach of federal, state, city, and private funding. At a high level, it provides a roadmap for public and private entities to work together to confront what the researchers estimate will be a $1 to $2.4 billion short- to medium-term price tag for Boston-area protection.
