Coastal Resilience

The Green Ribbon Commission’s Coastal Resilience Working Group (CRWG) convenes cross-sector leaders to support Boston as it prepares for the growing impacts of sea-level rise and coastal flooding.

Protecting Boston’s coastline will require more than individual projects. It will depend on coordinated planning, new financing approaches, effective governance, and collaboration among public agencies, private institutions, and communities. The CRWG provides a forum for members to contribute expertise, identify shared challenges, and inform the policies and systems needed to move resilience projects from planning to implementation.

The working group has also supported major research and analysis that have helped shape Boston’s resilience agenda, including work connected to Climate Ready Boston. Today, the CRWG continues to advance practical solutions that can protect people, neighborhoods, institutions, and critical infrastructure while strengthening Boston’s long-term economic and climate resilience.

Current Initiative

The CRWG is currently investigating in partnership with the City of Boston a Coastal Resilience Financial Blueprint to fund and finance district scale projects to protect the city’s coastline. Learn more about the project here.
