August 7, 2025 (Boston, Mass.) – The Boston Green Ribbon Commission announced today the appointment of Dr. Lindsey Butler as its new Executive Director. Lindsey brings deep environmental knowledge, experience working in both the public and private sectors, and a passion for communicating the urgency of our climate issues.
The Green Ribbon Commission (GRC) is a group of Boston business, philanthropic, and civic leaders working to accelerate the implementation of the City’s Climate Action Plan. Lindsey will lead efforts focused on coastal resilience, grid modernization, and large building decarbonization. Her start date with the Commission will be September 2, 2025.
“Dr. Butler’s expertise at the intersection of public health and climate action, combined with her work across the public, private, and academic sectors, uniquely enables her to support the acceleration of Boston’s climate work,” said Mayor Michelle Wu. “Her leadership at the Green Ribbon Commission will be integral in supporting our work to meet our ambitious climate goals and making Boston the greenest, most family friendly city in the country.”
“I am delighted that our Search Committee identified Lindsey. I think she is precisely the skilled and dynamic leader the GRC needs to move efforts to the next level,” said Amos Hostetter, co-chair of the GRC.
Previously, Lindsey served as vice president of sustainability solutions at Cref and as the first-ever director of climate and health resilience for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. She also served as deputy chief of policy for Mayor Kim Janey and has lectured and taught widely on environmental sustainability.
“The GRC has played a truly catalytic role in developing Boston’s robust climate action planning,” said Lindsey. “In Boston and across the globe, it is time to shift now to urgent and intentional implementation. With that, comes a lot of opportunity for our city and our economy. I am thrilled to lead the GRC into this next era of climate work.”
Lindsey assumes the role following Executive Director Amy Longsworth, who has provided a decade of leadership for the GRC. After an appropriate transition, Longsworth will remain as a senior advisor.
