The Massachusetts legislature has announced a breakthrough on clean energy legislation, including provisions designed to ease clean energy siting and permitting changes.
“These siting reforms are critical to modernizing Boston’s electricity grid to support our 100% clean energy future, and the Boston Green Ribbon Commission thanks our legislature for taking this important step forward,” said Amy Longsworth, Executive Director of the Green Ribbon Commission. “This legislation will allow us to advance grid modernization at the speed of climate change, updating infrastructure while incorporating community feedback.”
Properly sited grid infrastructure improvements are needed to facilitate a range of clean energy solutions, including all-electric buildings, electric vehicles, and distributed solar.
- Releasing a report, Boston Grid Modernization, detailing how key actors – including Eversource and other utilities, the City of Boston, and large energy users – can work together to respond to increasing electricity consumption and changing patterns of usage, as well as aging grid assets.
- Hosting a tour in Hyde Park to support meaningful community engagement around site selection for electrical infrastructure.
- Leading the Boston Grid Modernization Working Group, connecting large property owners, utilities, and the City of Boston to get a better understanding of projected future energy demands as we move toward a future of electrification.
