The Green Ribbon Commission is encouraged by Mayor Wu’s announcement today, which begins the process of utilizing some of the tools provided by the new state and federal climate legislation to decarbonize key sectors. Electrification of buildings using renewably sourced electricity, is one of the most critical recommendations of the Green Ribbon Commission’s Carbon Free Boston 2019 roadmap.
The Mayor has made clear that addressing climate change and social equity are of urgent importance, and we believe that she will continue to prioritize the production of housing in Boston that is both affordable and carbon free. If Boston elects to proceed with the process approved in the recent legislation, it will provide otherwise unavailable data related to the construction and operating costs of all-electric systems appropriate to building types found in the Commonwealth’s large cities.
